Watercolour course at the Buchholz District Adult Education Centre (20.02.2025 - 03.04.2025)
Experience the exciting world of watercolours in a watercolour course at the Buchholz Adult Education Centre!
From 20.02.2025 to 03.04.2025, you will have the opportunity to learn more about and fall in love with the art of watercolour painting in my adult education centre course every Thursday evening between 7 and 8.30 p.m. Are you from Buchholz in der Nordheide or the surrounding area and enjoy painting in your free time? Then you now have the opportunity to register for my course via the homepage of the Harburg district adult education centre.
About the watercolour course
The course will be held at the adult education centre at Neue Straße 3 in 21244 Buchholz. The course fee for all 7 sessions is €55 per person. A selection of materials will be announced at the first session. I look forward to seeing you there ;D.
Update: From 02.10.2025 to 06.11.2025, the second major watercolour course will take place at the Harburg District Adult Education Centre, also in Buchholz.

Watercolor Course (February–March 2026)
From February 5, 2026, to March 12, 2026, I had the opportunity to teach my third watercolor course for beginners and intermediate students at the Harburg District Adult Education Center (KVHS Harburg). The course was once again held at the district adult education center at Neue Straße 3 in Buchholz i. d. Nordheide and focused on the fundamentals of watercolor painting as well as specialized techniques. During two final sessions, participants were also able to bring in their own chosen subjects and paint them independently under guidance.
Update: From October 8, 2026, to December 3, 2026, the fourth major watercolor course will take place at the Harburg Adult Education Center, also in Buchholz. This time, the course will consist of nine sessions designed for both beginners and advanced students :)
Impressions on the course (February - March 2026)
In these classes, you’ll learn about the essential supplies you’ll need for your watercolor painting—from paper and the right pencil for sketching to the best brushes and the most beautiful paints. The course provides you with everything you need :)
Painting from reference images: Bring your own source of inspiration (a photo, a picture, or an object) and learn how to turn it into a watercolor painting. :)
Learn how to combine and mix colors, assess lighting conditions, sizes, and proportions, and break down complex subjects into simple elements. That way, you too can create your own works of art :)
Start by learning the basics of watercolor painting using simple shapes and motifs, and take home a piece of art you created all by yourself after every session!
Structure of my watercolour course
Become a watercolour rookie in six double lessons
In six 1 1/2-hour sessions, I will give you the opportunity to get started in the art of watercolour painting and learn simple tips and tricks for working with watercolours.
The individual course units are structured similarly and each consist of a small theoretical section, some basic exercises and a large section where you can paint your own works, for example based on an example. The respective units comprise the following components:
1) Previous experience and introduction to watercolour
After a short round of introductions, we will take our first steps into watercolour painting, introduce the materials and discuss previous experience.
2) Training the eye: shapes and values
This unit is about training the eye to see the world in shapes and colour values – because reality is extremely complex.
3) Using water consciously: edges and overflows
In this unit, I explain the difference between soft edges, firm edges and sharp edges, and introduce washes and lifting.

The creation of a watercolour illustration
How do I create my watercolours?
My watercolours arise from a variety of motivations and situations. Sometimes I simply go for a walk and see things that inspire me, such as a cat playing, fallen leaves or a beautiful sunset.
Once I have an idea for a motif, depending on my mood, I either look for suitable references in photos or on the internet, or I take a photo myself that captures the mood of the image for me. I then make sketches for my picture (usually one or two sketches) and think about the perspective, composition and colour scheme of the picture.
In addition to nature, I am also inspired by other things such as people, documentaries, video games, comics and more. Inspiration can be anything you like and enjoy. :)
How do I approach my painting?
Once I have finished the rough sketch, I usually think about which technique I want to use to best convey the mood of the picture as I want to convey it. Is the wet-on-wet technique more suitable for this, or is wet-on-dry better?
I usually work from light to dark and from back to front. I think of the picture in several layers and try to perfect it slowly but surely. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes the process takes several hours.
Sometimes I still tend to get lost in details too quickly or move on to subtleties too quickly, but hey – I never stop learning and always try to develop myself further.
What materials do I use?
I am currently trying out different types of paper and have not yet settled on a specific paper or colours that I use on a regular basis.
I generally like to use 300g handmade paper from Arche. Although it is not necessarily cheap, I find that it has produced by far the best results for my technique.
I'm still experimenting with colours. In principle, I like Paul Rubens watercolour tube paints because they are very colour-intensive and you only need a fingertip full of paint to paint the most beautiful motifs. I also use pan paints regularly, but I'm gradually moving away from them. :)
